Elevator Heart, a concert reading, is a modular musical theatre piece built of vignettes that explore the diverse experiences of women in the 21st century. There's room for everyone's voice as the ensemble creates a world of songs, scenes, and monologues that explore the way we tell stories and lay bare the intersections of being a woman. Book & Lyrics by Sara Cooper, Music by Amy Burgess and Julia Meinwald, this concert will be directed by Dev Bondarin and music directed by Rich Silverstein. Elevator Heart was developed at the Tisch New Musicals Workshop at NYU with the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program and the New Studio on Broadway, as well as through concerts at Dixon Place and The Producer’s Club. Expanding Representations of Gender Identity and Sexuality on Stage: NYMF partners with Honest Accomplice Theatre to facilitate a panel exploring where past musical productions' representations of gender and sexuality have been successful, what boundaries are still in place, and how we can continue to challenge the status quo in our storytelling. Moderated by Honest Accomplice co-founders Maggie Keenan-Bolger and Rachel Sullivan. Panelists will include casting director Rebecca Feldman, composer Brin Solomon, writer and performer EllaRose Chary, Stage & Candor founder Michelle Tse, actress Aneesh Sheth, and writer and interdisciplinary artist Ty Defoe. So happy to be joining CastAndLoose Live! for the second time this year! The next installment, CastAndLoose Live! Aloha, Ghost In The Great Wall Of Ni'ihau, returns to Joe's Pub at The Public , tackling everything the entertainment industry has to say (or not say) about Asian characters and performers. Host Lynne Marie Rosenberg is joined by stars of the stage and screen as they read, verbatim, from Lynne's terrible collection of real casting notices, as well as perform original response pieces written by members of the Ma-Yi Theater Company's Writers Lab. CastAndLoose will donate a portion of proceeds to Aapac - AsianAmerican Performers Action Coalition. As always, come laugh at the problem while funding the solution.

On June 8, Public Forum welcomes back its founder, Jeremy McCarter, for a special event coinciding with his new book, Young Radicals, about idealistic young Americans risking their lives in the years of hope and calamity around WWI. A cast of America's leading artist-activists will read Susan Glaspell's extraordinarily timely 1917 play The People, then discuss the urgent question it raises: How do we fix the world when the world resists being fixed? The Emerging Writers Group, now in its seventh year, is an important part of The Public’s commitment and long legacy of supporting current and future generations of our country’s most important writers. Hart Island Requiem, an experimental, immersive, and investigative theater piece, highlights stories of those who have died and are buried in Hart Island, a public burial ground located in the Bronx. It will be presented by Exploring the Metropolis Con Edison/Flushing Town Hall Composer-in-Residence Tidtaya Sinutoke, who created Hart Island Requiem in collaboration with Ty Defoe. The presentation takes place at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 21 at Flushing Town Hall. Admission to the event is free, and no RSVPs are required. More details can be found here.

Based on the best-selling novel by Ned Vizzini and the 2010 Focus Features film, It’s Kind of a Funny Story – a commission for Universal Stage Productions – features music & lyrics by Drew and a book by 2016 Tony nominee and fellow (M)oron Alex Brightman. The cast includes Bryce Pinkham, Ann Harada, Preston Boyd, Colton Ryan, Rozi Baker, Evie Dolan, Molly Hager, Reed Campbell, Noel Carey, Aneesh Sheth, Delaney Amatrudo, and Alex Goley. Returning for its 5th installment at Joe's Pub at The Public, CastAndLoose Live! features stars of the stage and screen bringing real, verbatim casting notices to life.
